The technology driven salesperson has the opportunity to benefit from automating sales using technology and embracing new sales tools. If you have made the switch to using digital technology and using technology tools, congratulations. There is a wide spectrum of sales tools beginning with the cell phone, blackberry, pocket PCs and computer programs that automate routine sales tasks.
We donât have to look far to see where technology is taking a new generation of salespeople. When I first began my career there were only three ways to communicate with customers. At that time, I am sure that there were salespeople who were only accustomed to using only two methods. Think back with me and trace the extinction of these salespeople. These salespeople only used face to face meetings and letters. I can not think of how direct mail worked back then but Sears Roebuck and JC Penney grew because they took advantage of mailing before the telephone appeared. The telephone changed their landscape and telemarketing changed how we bought products using the telephone.
Today we are faced with the fourth method of communications which is changing the sales landscape again. Digital technology in the form of email, text messaging, pod casting, video and audio streaming are raising the bar to communications. If we donât embrace this sales revolution, we will become extinct like analog products are vanishing today.
Communications are becoming more personal and the amount of information available can be leveraged to find the right profile of customer for any business. If you are not taking advantage of this revolution, where does this put your future in sales or in business?
